Paula McCarley

Real Men Wear Pink: Breast Cancer Survivor Paula McCarley
Paula McCarley was diagnosed with IDC Stage 3 w/ positive PALB2 breast cancer in the summer of 2016. Getting her diagnosis hit her family hard. It was especially hard for her husband Steve, who lost his sister to breast cancer at the same age as Paula was at diagnosis. Steve says, “Paula’s faith never wavered.” Her family was an incredible support system. They took a family hike on the full moon in August to the Mt. Lassen summit so Paula could scream from the top, “I will be cancer free!”. Steve’s advice to families going through their battles, “Seek out as much knowledge regarding your diagnosis as possible. Get 2nd, 3rd and even 4th opinions. Include your loved ones in your decisions and treatment. No one leaves this world alive, put your trust and faith in the Lord, He will not forsake you and through all your trials and triumphs He is faithful.”

A New Name, The Same Heart

For 30 years, our organization has been part of the fabric of this community — supporting individuals and families impacted by breast cancer with compassion, care, and connection.

As we’ve grown, so has our understanding of what our community needs. Today, our work goes beyond awareness — we are building meaningful connections, providing education, and offering direct support through our Breast Cancer Detection Fund.

That’s why we are proud to share that Nor-Cal Think Pink is becoming Nor-Cal Breast Cancer Connection.

This new name reflects who we are today and the future we are building — one rooted in connection, support, and ensuring that no one has to face breast cancer alone.

While our name is changing, our mission — and our heart — remain exactly the same.
