Diagnosed: January 2026
Age at Diagnosis: 34
In January, at just 34 years old, I received some of the worst news a new mother could get: I was diagnosed with triple-negative breast cancer. I usually don’t share things this personal, but if my story helps even one woman, then it’s worth it. My son Alex was only 4 months old at the time and I found the lump while breastfeeding. A week before my diagnosis I was told during a routine yearly visit that my lump was nothing to worry about…that it was probably breastfeeding related since I am young and don’t have a family history of breast cancer. I am so glad that my husband Greg encouraged me to go back a few days later and to push for answers. Turns out we were right to be concerned.
Since then, the months have been filled with appointments, scans, chemotherapy and immunotherapy treatments, surgeries, hope, fear, prayers, and many tears. As scary as it has been, I am grateful for my team of doctors and how fast they were able to confirm diagnosis and get me started on treatment. When it comes to TNBC, time is of the essence.
Greg has been beside me every step of the way and I am so grateful for him. Our sweet baby Alex has been our biggest blessing.
We are so lucky to have our parents and my sister here in town for support. They have made us countless meals, watched Alex during appointments, sat with me during treatments, and so much more. Our family and friends have also been so supportive and helpful during this time.
Please let this be your reminder: do your self-breast exams, pay attention to your body, and advocate for yourself. If something doesn’t feel right, don’t ignore it.
My journey is far from over, but I am choosing to trust in God, and to have faith, hope, and gratitude for every step ahead.
